Astrology of the Qassem Soleimani Assassination

It doesn’t take a genius astrologer to predict that the USA will suffer some painful retaliation from President Trump’s provocative assassination of elite Iranian general Qassem Soleimani on January 2, 2020 The real question is when and how bad. So far we have seen the Iranian Revolutionary Guard fire missiles at American bases in Iraq–remarkable, but since no American lives were lost, today the Trump administration states this shows Iran does not want to escalate the conflict. So. Can we really believe that this is the extent of Iran’s retaliation?

As usual, astrology can give us some context.

On January 2nd, when Trump gave the order and the assassination was carried out, Mars was at 29 degrees of Scorpio. When a planet is at 29 degrees it is called a “critical degree” because events that occur at this degree are more important, more vital, more visceral than the other 28 degrees.  There are 12 Zodiac signs; each gets it’s own 30 degrees of the 360 degrees in a circle. 29 degrees is the end of the line: a planet like Mars is at maximum expression here. Because 29 is the end, events that happen when planets travel over this degree often involve endings.

Scorpio rules death and the new life emerges from death. Mars is the willful action planet. A murder committed when Mars is at 29 degrees of Scorpio is going to have more long-term consequences, be messier and have a greater impact than a murder committed at another time.

Mars at 29 degrees of Scorpio forms a square (a 90 degree angle–a challenge) to the natal moon of the USA, which is at 27 degrees of Aquarius. The moon symbolizes safety and security.  The assassination makes the USA less safe and secure–and as a result, as a nation we are likely to get hit harder by Iran and feel less safe. January 10 and the week following are the most likely dates I think to see any direct action from Iran.

On January 21, the Sun moves into Aquarius and immediately forms a challenge to revolutionary Uranus in the conservative Taurus: this is a favorable constellation for a cyber attack.  Both Uranus and the sign it rules–Aquarius–rule technology, computers, electricity. Uranus has been in Taurus now for nearly 2 years of it’s 7 year transit of the sign; but this is the first time the Sun meets this rebel planet….there will be surprises, shocks during this week.

I think if a cyber-attack were to occur–and that has been the speculation, given their superiority at covert computer attacks–it is most likely to occur in the weeks after March 23: authoritarian Saturn moves into technological Aquarius on this date–and forms a square to revolutionary, futuristic Uranus. In the myths of old, Saturn and Uranus were enemies and a square between them is a challenge between structure and chaos.

So what next? The full moon on Friday January 10th is of epic proportions and the 12th and 13th are very powerful days. More to come when I write a full moon forecast tomorrow. We are all in for some big changes.

Full Moon in Cancer 2020: Your Personal Daily Forecast

OVERVIEW: January 10–13 are pivotal days for us all, and planet Earth: the energy is extremely intense and unpredictable. Have courage and be kind to others; the astrology now is very hard to tolerate–the temptation to burn it all down and blow it all up is great. Events that occur during this time have enormous significance–these are the most powerful days of the year.

After the 10th, all planets are in direct motion–no retrogrades until mid-February. When all planets move forward, things advance more quickly.

Friday 1/10–The full moon today at 12:11 PST is in the sign it rules–Cancer: home, hearth, family, emotions, security and safety are the domains of this sign. Today is also an eclipse, so the moon does not shine down on us–instead we feel it’s shadow. It is not a very friendly moon, this one, inviting you over for a nice cozy meal with loved ones; no, this moon is nothing like that at all, this moon has her door barricaded against the opposing (that is, directly opposite) masculine, stern Capricorn planets that at worst are power-hungry, control-seeking, authoritarian-loving….and have no interest in your own personal comfort. Does this sound like your own internal landscape–are you under the thumb of your own ruthless self-control? Or is it a romantic partner, a boss, a job, a parent that is keeping you down?

Here is a map of the skies for this full moon–notice all the cluster of Capricorn planets opposite the moon:

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Cancer 2020

This lunar eclipse is calling for us all to reject inner–and outer–controlling forces that deny the legitimacy of our loving affirmations and aspirations.

To make this full moon more intense, iconoclastic Uranus turns from retrograde to direct motion today. This transit brings shocks, surprises and upsets in the week before and after it changes direction—it moves slowly, so the influence builds up and then lingers a while. Clearly, the past 7 days have been nothing but upsets in the world order–unlwaful assassinations, civilian passenger planes shot out of the sky, escalating storms of wild fires….and a major earthquake.

This is the energy of breakthroughs–there are spiritual breakthroughs, personal ones…and there are military ones: on all levels, there is an enormous force pushing us to break free of old programming—-this, to make progress on our personal life journeys. Self-empowerment demands that we take the Capricorn journey of one step at a time up that mountain.

Saturday 1/11:

The morning has a surprise to it–big-hearted moon in Leo squares–challenges–iconoclastic Uranus. You can feel good by thinking outside the box.

Today there is easy access to the passionate element of fire: for people with a lot of fire in their charts (that’s you Leo, Aries and Sadge), it’s been a big wet blanket since the Winter Solstice 3 weeks ago. Capricorn’s cold hard reality makes the Fire-type unusually depressed–the usual fire-sign fantasies about the triumph of self-expression, personal adventure and perseverance against all odds are extinguished by the stern authority of Capricorn.

It’s not much, but today the element of Fire offers some optimism with these planets: Mars in grandstanding Sagittarius, the Moon in self-esteem loving Leo and the wounded healer Chiron in warrior Aries. Taking action on healing; taking action on personal philosophies or beliefs; coming up with new philosophies that support your healing and physical expression; having courage to change. Sadge loves movement–walking, running, hiking or dancing are all good options.

Sunday 1/12:

Any big dreams you had yesterday about being personally effective may feel thwarted this morning–do not take it personally. The moon is still in self-loving Leo, and for most of the morning it forms an irritating angle to dreamy Neptune: adjustments are called for, and when you make them you still hold on to your dreams….and your sanity.

But today’s big news is the EXACT conjunction–merger–of controlling Saturn and secretive Pluto in Capricorn. Lessons about personal power and the consequences of giving it away, hiding it, manipulating it and not being honest about it are themes with this pairing. Much has been written about this–the last time these 2 met in Capricorn was 1518.

Monday 1/13–Wednesday 1/15

Monday is like Sunday, just worse because most of us have to go to work today.

However, for you romantic types who can tolerate a wild hair…..the planet of love, Venus, moves into dreamy romantic Pisces today and immediately forms an easy angle to eccentric, unconventional Uranus. If you are looking for love you may meet someone offbeat, from a different country, religion, tribe or social class; this trend continues through the 15th. But maybe stay in to swipe left or right–Tuesday evening looks to be a bit critical and cranky due to a Mars/Moon square, but Wednesday is a nice night to go out.

Thursday 1/16:

Communicating Mercury moves into cerebral, detached Aquarius this afternoon. There is space to think; new ideas can more easily come to your consciousness–the thinking planet is brainy, chatty and eccentric in this sign. However, Mercury does immediately form a challenge to Uranus, planet of the unexpected: mercury rules travel, and with surprises possible, mind your commute home today and Friday as well.  You may find yourself surprised at what you are thinking and learning about! New ideas–let them in!

Astrology Forecast April 29–May 5, 2019

Welcome to the forecast! All times are PDST, which is local time.

This is a dynamic week which ends with a New Moon in Taurus on Friday May 3. The day before and after the New Moon are good for acting to bring positive, mind-expanding ideas, people and experiences into your life; you can be in the right place at the right time and the right people will be hearing you because of other planetary influences with this New Moon. This week it’s all about whether you A) know your limits and B) can resist that last round, that final markdown, that amazing deal, that last hit. Because if you have good timing and abide by A and B above, good things can come your way this week. This week, timing is everything.

Monday 4/30 feels heavy: Saturn turns retrograde today at 5:55pm.  Those of you with your Sun or another planet/angle at 20 degrees of Capricorn–that’s January 11th–or 5 days on either side of that date are most impacted.  Same for 20 degrees of the other Cardinal Signs: Aries, Cancer and Libra. That’s April 10, June 13 and October 14. On a personal level, this generally feels depressing– the feeling is one of duty, responsibility, limits and a pervasive negative mood because nothing seems to be going anywhere. Capricorn teaches the lesson of patiently waiting. Capricorn out waits everyone and always gets what he/she wants, in the end, because the rest of us gave up. When Saturn turns retrograde this year, it does so at nearly the same degree as Pluto–not know for optimism–and the transiting South Node of the Moon–traditionally a point representing the past, past-lives and things that are past-their-prime in that you know them too well and need to move on. In short, Saturn turning retrograde this year can churn up old crap more easily this year as opposed to last year. If you feel depressed, find ways to nurture or imagine your way out by reading, watching movies, listening to music. Snacks and junk TV/movies can solve lots of problems. Just walk it off the next day–remember your physical health is priceless.

Tuesday 4/30 is fluid with a lot of different moods: stay grounded and don’t get pulled off course. Up until 11:38pm thinking, communicating, all skills, short trips, friendly competition–especially verbal–and dynamic encounters with siblings, neighbors and primary ed are all highlighted. Mercury is making a nice angle to Mars–but these planets move fast, so pace yourself on this moody day. Mercury moves on, though, to make a compulsively moody square to both Saturn and Pluto Wednesday 5/1 and Thursday 5/2. Both days avoid getting all obsessive-compulsive about nothing. Or anything, actually. Just take it easy. On days like these it’s easy to get into a beef, be bullied or be the bully. If you catch yourself latching on with a death grip….immediately release. It’s not worth it. Once we get past 2:38 pm Thursday things are a bit sunnier and it’s a great afternoon/evening for activities for humans and their pets/horses, but communication of all sorts is well supported.

By Friday 5/3 at 1:18pm the Moon moves into Taurus, kicking into gear the New Moon in Taurus–exact Saturday afternoon at 3:46pm. Friday–Sunday are all good nights to go out–the energy of the weekend is very positive, allowing us access to stability and innovation as we make new fresh starts in areas assigned to Taurus such as: Planet Earth, farms, banks, currencies, cosmetics, archaeology, decorative arts, interior design, beauty industry, skin care as well as hoarding disorders–Taurus loves to collect. On a collective level, this New Moon brings some unpredictable acceleration to the cracks, erosion and austerity in the government we’ve been experiencing since 2016:  the infrastructure of the country is falling apart, so perhaps more rapid erosion of government or innovations in austerity: government will be even more in the news this week–as if it is not enough already.  For those of us plowing (ha ha, Taurus image) ahead on a personal level trying to make positive change, this New Moon highlights a very dynamic planetary aspect that can bring some good luck to your quest for change, and this energy is exact Sunday 5/5 at 2:57pm: Mars–action planet–opposite Jupiter–growth planet. This happens every 2 years. There is a strong need for freedom to act as you see fit: no restrictions, you just want to continue growing and advancing your agenda, whatever it happens to be. Just check your motives, desires–and don’t overestimate your resources or capacities. Don’t overspend only to be cash-strapped by mid-summer. For those of you not acting foolishly, the days leading up to Sunday May 5 are great for being in the right place at the right time–or managing to be where the right people need to hear/see you–to move forward with your desires and bring positive people/resources/abilities/skills into your life: it’s all about timing. I knew a physician once who often said of luck: you rehearse your luck. That’s this aspect, in a nutshell. And it is strongly enhanced the the New Moon on Friday. I hope you all have a lucky weekend. And, this weekend, I’d avoid overdoing it with booze, extreme sports and organized gambling. If the casino is your thing, maybe limit your cash or time with the one-armed bandits: having a plan can save you some serious simoleans this weekend!

Astrology Forecast for April 22–28, 2019

Tucson, AZ:

Welcome to the forecast. All times are Pacific Daylight Saving Time.

The Sun moved in to Taurus a few days ago and the pace has slowed down, things feel a bit lazier. Taurus can be lazy, and the strongest aspect pattern this week (Mars squaring Neptune), exact on Saturday, is a very tiring aspect: this combination is great for taking it easy, shoring up your reserves and very poor for getting any hard, vigorous physical work done. Or getting anything done that requires intense focus and concentration–it’s just too flaky. If you’ve been feeling exhausted…..the trend will continue this week, with energy perking up again once we get to Sunday. Sunday looks like the nicest day of the week at this point, probably the best day to socialize.

If you are a Taurus or know a Taurus, some of this will be familiar to you. Taurus is a fixed sign, meaning it is a huge reservoir of energy and can really sustain and endure, just like Fixed cousins Scorpio, Aquarius and Leo; but unlike the others, Taurus is is the most stubborn of them all because it is fixed Earth. Earth is the element we all know, as humans, the best; it is the material plane, and most of you reading this are aware that there is more to life than material things….but it’s hard to believe there is more than meets the eye, and many people never get beyond the material plane. Taurus is not just fixed earth, but also ruled by Venus, planet of leisure and love. There are 2 other Zodiac signs in the element of Earth, but they are not fixed, and they are not ruled by planets as pleasant and indolent as Venus. So Taurus can really get stuck in pleasant things–hence the reputation to be lazy.  Taurus loves, wants and collects security, which it craves, and luxury, which it loves.  At it’s best, the Sun in Taurus knows gratitude for the gifts of our 5 senses and all Mother Earth gives us, including the gift of money: Taurus is a wise steward when high functioning, knowing moderation in values and in the collection and amassing of resources/money. At it’s worst, Taurus hoards and overreacts and is stuck; this sign gets stuck in ways no other sign does, which is a disaster if the place where one is stuck is mental illness. All Taurus people are having their worlds shaken by Uranus, which is in this sign for the next 7 years. Those of you born in the first part of Taurus are feeling it the most; Taurus people are feeling values changing and unfamiliar freedom urges and needs.

Monday April 22 at 4:05pm the Sun in Taurus crosses paths with Uranus; there is a strong need and expression of freedom on this day, as well as the 3 days before and after; however, Taurus is a conservative sign, it does not like change in the material world, but this does not mean it cannot be radical in a conservative manner. A collective expression of this energy is the arrest of a private citizen in a private militia expressing conservative values in a radical way; this story was in the news as this aspect was forming at the start of the weekend, a link to the Reuters story here. This is Earth Day–Happy Earth Day. This could be the most radical Earth Day since Earth Day started!

Wednesday April 24 Pluto in Capricorn stops to turn retrograde at 11:45am. For those of you born in the last 2 weeks of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn–you are most influenced by this. Find out more about your Sun Sign dates here. Every year Pluto stops once to turn backwards, and the weeks leading up to and after this point can feel intense and relentless in the part of your chart where Capricorn operates. Capricorn has great qualities, but Pluto tends to bring out the worst: Pluto represents secrets, power, control and all transformative processes and it can be a bully in Capricorn–the sign of the CEO, all business, no pleasure–encouraging you to deny your own personal need for comfort and safety, whatever that means to you: chances are, right now you are not doing enough of it, especially if you are feeling depressed.  Many of my clients have big insights when Pluto is turning retrograde. Accidents happen, too, if you are pushing yourself too hard and not paying attention to the basic rules of the road…whatever that road is. If you find yourself feeling like you’ve made some sort of psychic or emotional breakthrough recently or in the next 2 weeks, you probably have; claim your victory if you have! Pay attention to ways you can reclaim your own personal power, even as our larger systems of power appear to be cracking. Learning how to identify, plan, build and ultimately depend on your own personal structures is key at this time. Thoughts are structures–our beliefs and emotions need thoughts. We need to transform our thoughts!

Wednesday and Thursday are serious days; duty, responsibility, work for others…by Friday the Moon moves from sober Capricorn to freedom loving Aquarius: on Friday, in some way or fashion, the mood is to disrupt–folks might be a bit unglued at work as they struggle to maintain after a long week of having to maintain. Just watch you don’t get caught up on something too idealistic, that is if you have any energy, because early Saturday at 6:04am the biggest aspect pattern of the week is exact: Mars–action–in easily bored Gemini squares Neptune–illusions–in Pisces–spirituality/fantasies/dreams/addictions.  This energy is draining, and has been feeling draining all week; we feel discouraged, disheartened more easily this week. Why? Mars, the action planet and ego planet, can’t act and be egotistical when confounded by Neptune. Neptune doesn’t care about the ego, it just wants to bliss-out on love, compassion, ideals, drugs, Spirit, martyrdom. Mars likes a clear path to victory; Neptune is a fog, dissolving ego so there is more room for the magical and non-ordinary. Picking a fight may not get you very far due to depleted energies. This energy is really impacting those of you born the last half of the Mutable signs–Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces and Virgo–dates here. In fact, the only one of these signs without a planet in it now is humble Virgo. I recommend using some of the strengths of high-functioning Virgo this week to feel better and balance out all the clamoring noise from Neptune, Mars and Jupiter–seriously, these 3 are confusing us all with a celestial shell game. Stick to a routine, act on feelings of compassion, hone your skills, make yourself have experiences that build self-confidence, and then repeat; bring order where there is none; do something positive and of service to animals, create a healthy daily routine, use handicrafts to soothe your mind.

Finally, last January in one of my forecasts I reviewed some star charts related to the arrest of former NPR affiliate news reporter and current political activist and prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal. Then, I suggested that in April there would be positive movement on his case. Late last week, it was announced Mumia will get a new hearing to appeal his conviction for murder. This is great news for Mumia! News on this story here.
