Your Astrology Forecast: The Coronavirus Pandemic

Welcome to the Forecast!

Your full forecast returns next week. This week, I want to tell you about the Coronavirus and what the stars say about the spread of this disease.

It’s Thursday February 27th as I write–the New Moon was last Sunday March 23rd, in the dissolving, fluid sign of Pisces. Thinking Mercury is transiting retrograde through this sign, stirring up moods, vibes and fears–thoughts are not rational in this irrational sign. Within 24 hours of Sunday’s New Moon the stock market crashed in response to the world-wide spread of this virus. And shortly after that, POTUS addressed the nation to advise us that here in the USA were are not at risk.

The stars, however, say otherwise. We are at risk of some significant, daily disruptions to our health, home and work routines.

In astrology, action oriented Mars and destructive, transforming Pluto are the 2 most explosive planets–they rule sharp objects, war, ambition…and they also rule viruses and pandemics. These two planets are slated to collide Monday, March 23, 2020.  At about this time, it will be much clearer as to the extent and impact of the pandemic. Also present in the same spot in the sky is expansive Jupiter. Jupiter will expand whatever Mars and Pluto get up to. Mars moves the fastest of the three, and is now speeding towards Jupiter (March 20th), then Pluto. It is very very unusual for all three to merge. This is a very dynamic situation, and Mars moves fast.

All these planets are in the  zodiac sign of government, business and commerce: Capricorn. Capricorn is also the sign of the hermit: think quarantine. Capricorn is an earth sign that makes a very easy angle to the Sun, Mercury and Neptune in evasive Pisces–together, these 2 signs and 6 planets in them create opportunities for physical structures (Capricorn) to dissolve (Pisces) in ways we cannot easily see or discern.

When business and commerce come to a halt due to disease, the economy stalls–we are likely to experience an economic recession soon, as well as unpredictable domestic interruptions in all sorts of services. Our health care system will likely be over-run. This constellation of planets, and what they rule, signals a real significant impact of this virus on our daily lives in the USA–expect a daily intensification now through March 23rd.

As with any powerful transit of the warrior planet Mars, the best way to cope and to harness this energy for good is to plan and execute projects that involve hard work and discipline: for example, planning your big spring cleaning, working hard and getting rid of waste and excess are great positive expressions of this energy.  Mars and Pluto together are powerful ambition. Training for a marathon or other strong physical exercise is another winner here with this powerful energy that desires nothing more than to compete, achieve and dominate. Jupiter is a variable you want to consider–Jupiter makes everything it touches grow bigger. Some things are good bigger–other things, like pandemics, not so much. It is easy to bite off more than you can chew with this energy–pace yourself appropriately.

A pandemic is something that is out of our personal control–you can make plans, though, to protect your sanity and your personal well-being.  Capricorn is the sign of planning. It is always a good idea to have an emergency preparedness plan. Make sure you have enough food, water and cash for a few weeks at home–you may not get sick, the odds right now are you will not, but you could be stuck at home because your place of employment is shut down for a few weeks, as are your favorite public places.

I will be back this weekend for your March 2020 Forecast!

Your Daily Astrology Forecast through February 23, 2020

Welcome to the forecast. All times are MST.

With action-oriented Mars changing signs this Sunday, February 16, and thinking Mercury turning retrograde during your Monday commute home, the week gets off to a wonky start. Tuesday the Sun moves from rebellious Aquarius to dreamy, spacey Pisces. Read on to learn how this impacts you and all Zodiac Signs.

Unexpected delays, sudden intuitive insights and stuff from your personal past to come up on Monday as communicating Mercury turns retrograde in the most evasive sign of the zodiac–Pisces. In Pisces, Mercury likes to communicate in flexible, non-verbals ways like art, myths, legends, music, dance, dreams–if crude language must be used, Pisces prefers poetry and ballads. Try to find ways to explore these plastic ways of communicating. Pisces obfuscates and fudges the truth and can make things foggy–keep this in mind in your business dealings so you don’t get fooled.  Now through April 10 is best for assessing projects you have already started and devote time to editing, revising, reshaping and revisiting them–it is NOT ideal to initiate new action during this time, not because anything bad will happen but because increased delays and miscommunications are just more likely–the planet of communication is moving backwards, and will meet up with the Sun in Pisces next week so this Mercury Retrograde is a bit stronger.  For Gemini and Virgo, Mercury is your ruler–you are all a bit more like Pisces right now, and are feeling more spacey, tired, busy and not very grounded. More self-care, and let yourself space out in safe, healthy ways–you will feel surprisingly energized. For all signs, it is easy to get deceived when Pisces is strong. It’s easy to get caught up in an illusion with this retrograde–avoid making any rash decisions based on ideals, dreams, future plans and things that are too good to be true. Expect an increase in rain events and flooding during this retrograde as well.

Also on Monday, the warrior planet Mars is now in ambitious Capricorn–and makes very strong and easy angle to radical Uranus in status-quo Taurus. Despite Uranus being in Taurus now for almost 2 years, this slow moving revolutionary planet has not directly experienced Mars in Capricorn yet–so what to expect with the earth signs of Taurus and Capricorn jacked up with these powerful planets? Look for disruptions and agitations related to the environment, climate change and natural disasters. I expect this week to see a very big muscular expression of power in the federal government here in the USA–last week President Trump was observed to make aggressive, vindictive moves against his opponents and make a big power grab at the DOJ (Department of Justice). Expect to see more of this, just worse, even more abusive and more concerning. Mars wants to get what it wants, and in Capricorn Mars wants power.  Our power-hungry POTUS will be on a tear this week.  Mars and Uranus  are super-strong for the next 7 days as they do their first trine as they form their first 120 degree angle to each other– there are 3 big powerful planets already in authoritarian Capricorn–rigid Saturn, burn-it-to-the-ground-and-start-over Pluto and expanding Jupiter–and Mars, like the steroid it is, just amps up everything in this sign of authority.  Capricorn, Libra, Cancer and Aries are feeling this very powerful energy the most–if your Sun, Moon or Rising Sign is in one of these signs, you are learning lessons about limits of personal power and your relationship to authority and the limits involved–and I’m happy to say that these lessons will feel a whole lot less acute, personal and intractable  once we get past March 3rd.

The mood for fun evenings after work is a bit dim this week. Friday looks good. In general this week, try to avoid power plays at work and in your relationships. It is not a great time to move projects and relationships forward. Catch up with old friends, review projects, revisit unfinished projects and plan for your future–these are all great ways to maximize the energy this week.

Your Valentine’s Day 2020 Astrology Forecast for All Signs plus Mercury Retrograde

Welcome to the Forecast!

All times are MST.

In general, the trend this week (now through Monday February 17)  for all signs is an uptick in being a bit too busy and thus easily distracted from your personal goals. This week ahead appears to offer a lot of energy to focus on the big picture–or big distractions–at the expense of details. Maybe let yourself watch some long, inflated movie or leaf through some travel literature to burn off some of this need to expand your horizons…even if most of the day you do not see much past your cubicle.  This week, whether in business or pleasure, do not avoid, forget or discount the details you need to attend to in order to keep your big dreams afloat. Give yourself more time to get things done; other people will be more confused and distracted especially Sunday and Monday. Mercury goes retrograde in wishy-washy Pisces Monday afternoon February 17th. Action oriented Mars changes signs from philosophical Sagittarius to business-minded Capricron one day earlier and adds to the sudden tempo change.

Valentine’s Day could be an emotional mine-field this year: the quick moving moody Moon is in grudge-holding Scorpio so it’s not a very light-heated mood for you lovers. Additional factors make getting booty-hurt and feeling wounded a little too easy, so you may have to armor-up and be able to take a few swings if you want to achieve your romantic goals: being a good sport is key, as Mars is winding up his tour of athletic Sagittarius this weekend. At 29 degrees, Mars is stronger than usual on Valentine’s Day. Things can come to an end when planets are at 29 degrees– it blows to get dumped on Valentine’s Day, and with Mars here this year odds are slightly higher than average. Consider factoring in some action or something dynamic that lets you horse around to burn off some of this assertive energy–Mars makes a nice angle to the Sun in  detached Aquarius. Maybe keep it a bit fun and easy going to get the most out of this Valentine’s Day. Games, arch-chair travel, travel movies, sports, debates and even bookish activities are winners this Valentine’s Day. With so many planets in practical, why-spend-more Capricorn just getting your foot out the door and giving yourself permission to have fun will be an accomplishment. And give yourself plenty of time! Mercury is at a standstill in the sky this Valentine’s Day–in amorphous, not reality based Pisces. Expect delays or miscommunications  in travel and restaurant reservations.

Daily Astrology Forecast through February 9, 2020

Welcome to the forecast! All times are MST.

There was a great opinion piece in The Guardian last week about contemporary astrology–check this out.

And, before I get into the forecast for the week ahead–a quick look at last week, because the New Moon in Aquarius last Friday 1/24–which was in effect through Sunday afternoon 1/26–was a loaded with volatile, unpredictable and shocking planetary aspect patterns that laid the table for significant–but impossible to conceive or predict–events.

Friday January 24–in China, the unprecedented travel ban in Wuhan and Hubei Province begins–50 million people are prevented from travel to reduce spread of the new Coronovirus (timeline here).

Also on this date, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake devastates Eastern Turkey.

Sunday January 26–First reports about former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s new book appear in the New York Times in which he writes that the President told him he would not lift the freeze on security aid to Ukraine until that country investigated his rivals, the Bidens. This bombshell drops in the middle the US Senate Impeachment Trial of the President.

Sunday January 26–tragic death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and 7 others: their deaths shock a nation. I have never heard the word “shock” used so much on ESPN or sports radio as I have in the past week. At the time of the the tragedy the Moon in Aquarius is at 27 degrees–which is the exact same as the USA Moon. This is a national tragedy–the outpouring of grief is stunning across the nation.

I believe that, from what I am seeing, the new Coronavirus is going to intensify and be very disruptive. Why? More next week.

ARIES–You are likely working more than you want, and feeling restricted, and possibly even feeling a bit depressed–uncharacteristic for the sign that is famous for unflappable confidence. You need to wait till March 22 for the weight to be lifted. This Friday the 7th Venus, planet of love, goes into Aries–you may want to start something in romance or business, but you will have to avoid impulse and plan and strategize your way.

TAURUS–3 planets in Capricorn are grounding already grounded Taurus, and in the sign of banks and possessions, this week is good for business and maintaining your personal status quo, if that’s what floats your boat. It’s an excellent week for you to dig into your dreams and spiritual practices with easy access to 3 dreamy Pisces planets making nice angles to all 30 degrees of Taurus, so wherever your Sun falls, maybe look to values larger than your bank account.

GEMINI and VIRGO–you are lumped together because you are both ruled by the quick moving and quick-witted Mercury, and your ruler moves into the sign of PISCES Monday February 3rd. Save for the moon, no other planet moves as fast as Mercury–which is why Gemini and Virgo are restless, always thinking, busy and in motion. Expect to feel more impractical, spacey, intuitive, dreamy, inspired or deluded depending on whether you are taking the high road or the low one. Through Thursday, Mercury makes a nice angle to Uranus–the other intellectual planet of the Zodiac. There are opportunities for you to have powerful dreams, creative thoughts, sudden unexpected short trips and surprises related to handicrafts. Mercury rules the hands and wrists and all crafts made by human hands.

CANCER–Like your Aries cousins, you really need to wait till March 22 to start feeling like you can safely emerge from you hobbit-hole; it feels harsh out there, but what seems rough is just designed to help you structure your watery depths so your intuitive and creativity and domestic life can continue to provide the security you crave. Right now your Sun is getting a lot of emo energy from watery Pisces; the element of water is not structured–work on accepting and incorporating whatever structures are being imposed on you now. There are 3 planets in Capricorn opposing you now–with Mars due to join them March 18th, the feeling of being under the gun will only increase.

LEO–Are you an early Leo, with a July birthday around the 22nd–26th? The first part of the week may offer a crisitunity of some sort, and a fated one at that–whatever comes your way, you’ll need to use your intuition and intellect to work it out. Creativity is your key. Do you have a Leo birthday from August 12–21? There is a Full Moon in Leo on February 9th–in effect the 7th–9th–and there are quite a few adjustments you will need to make, Leo, on these days to really shine–accept that emotional expression is safe and OK, and that only by trusting feelings and accepting responsibility for your behavior will you truly shine. This week you can be a petty housecat or a leader of the pride–up to you.

LIBRA–Like your opposite sign, Aries, you are not feeling light and fluffy–the Libra default setting. Responsibilities have to be met, work has to be done–both professionally and in your relationships. Libra does not like to commit–consider making a commitment to yourself, to improve your current state of affairs by accepting the reality of whatever situation or relationship is dogging you. Give yourself a firm foundation for your light-hearted exploits. On the February 7th Venus moves into Aries, opposite your Sun; this can bring love or something you value into your life. A firm footing will improve your odds!

SCORPIO–Detachment, Scorpio, that is the theme for you this week; it’s the opposite of what you do so well: constantly dig deeper and deeper at your latest obsession, and, nursing grudges. Detachment is helpful for you; allowing a bit of space helps see the big picture–not everything needs a full blown investigation, and, some things can truly be accepted at face value. Scorpio does not trust easily. Maybe start practicing now. Starting late next month, the push to detach from your strong hidden emotions will only increase making it that much harder to practice trust.

SAGITTARIUS–You are feeling very energized, Sagittarius–don’t overdo it this week, it’s easy to over-eat, over-drink, travel to excess and stand on your soap-box. Mars is traveling through this sign, giving every Saggitarian Sun a boost of assertiveness–the last thing you all really need, as the fire signs are the most resilient of the Zodiac and could use a bit of hubris now and then. Sadge loves to make meaning out of things–this is a great week to explore dreams, myths, stories and spiritual practices that can help you make meaning of your world.  Sadge also has a temper: with Mars here, you could fly off the handle or horse around to excess. Finding a project or adventure to work on will help you process this action-energy of Mars.

CAPRICORN–Starting mid-month, Mars will enter your sign and give all of you a big boost to work harder, climb higher and build your personal authority. To prepare, take stock of where you are now–no doubt, you have been working very hard. Think back to December 2017 and how since that time, there is more structure in your life, either imposed on you or because of your own hard work–and it’s been intense. This period in your life is coming to a close in late March. Figure out now what projects you want to advance, and which ones can wait, so when you get this surge of energy to move things ahead mid-February, you are well positioned to move forward.

AQUARIUS–The Sun is currently transiting this unique zodiac sign, giving everyone born under this eccentric star a little extra sparkle now through February 18th.  ; the Sun makes few aspect,Please read GEMINI and VIRGO about a special aspect for you this week–it involves your ruler, Uranus. Look for creative opportunities with neighbors, siblings–Aquarius people are experiencing big changes in their personal values. Uranus makes this nice aspect with Mercury 2 more times this month–super intuitive out-of-this-world insights are yours for the taking this month.

PISCES–Things have been a bit too dreamy for Pisces people lately–3 planets are transiting that time now, all of them prone to being completely impractical and/or inspired when in this sign: Neptune, Mercury and Venus. The first you can’t do much about–slow moving Neptune is there 5 more years. Mercury is here through April 3. But romantic Venus is in Pisces now, and in this sign it really puts a spell on you; this February at 2:03pm Venus moves into Aries, lightening up the Pisces fog a bit and helping you all see a bit better.

Astrology Forecast for New Moon in Aquarius and January 2020

Happy Aquarius Season! Today January 20th the Sun went into the sign of Aquarius, where it travels now through February 20. Aquarians are at best offbeat, intellectual, helpful, friendly, emotionally detached humanitarians who have an eccentric orbit of friends and social causes and often love humanity more than one specific human. The Sun traveling through this sign will bring up more interest in social and environmental justice and all humanitarian causes; Aquarius–and Uranus, ruler of this rebel sign–can take radical tendencies to a radical extreme.  Aquarius is emotionally detached. If you are in a relationship with an Aquarian, you know it is like relating to Spock sometimes: you have to explain the lived emotional reality of humans to them over and over again.

The Week Ahead–all times are Mountain Standard Time:

Business: This is a good week for business opportunities to be available or to have open up in unexpected ways–perhaps through a social interaction or simply an investment tip. This is a good time for creating, negotiating and initiating contracts and  transactions–adjusting financial portfolios, buying art. Today the Sun moved into Aquarius, ushering in the spirit of sudden change–a universal life principal that the sign of Aquarius rules. There is something new in the air: ideals, the future. At the same time, what-we-value Venus in idealistic Pisces is forming an easy angle to expansive Jupiter in practical Capricorn. Maybe you will find an opportunity to move your petroleum based stock portfolio to a 100% green energy collection of stocks.

Things are smooth sailing now through mid-February, when Mercury next goes retrograde in mid-March. By May, 4 planets will be retrograde–less forward momentum. Look for opportunities to grow what you value–your relationships, your values, your money.

Relationships: If you are having some relationship problems and need to hash something out, I’d say do it sooner rather than later…..sooner being the next few days. Increasing confusion and friction in one-on-one relationships is more likely as the week progresses–loving (Venus) is forming a challenging angle to desiring Mars Sunday night. Venus is in touchy-feely Pisces and gets hurt feelings when Mars in emotionally absent Sagittarius wants to horse around no strings–or romance–attached. Now, if your dream romantic weekend includes camping, rodeos, backpacking, exploring…then you’ll have no problems, your temperament will likely weather this annual challenge because you groove to the Sadge spirit of adventure–and blockheadedness. But if you are the romantic comedy type….a good way to deal with this confusion is dance and and fluid movement like swimming or visual arts like film or movie making. Organize pictures; ride your bike to a photo exhibit; walk to a film. Mars is Sadge is movement; Pisces is the image: combined, both are the moving image, movies, and propaganda.  Mars likes physical energy and Pisces likes to flow–and both want to make religious or spiritual meaning. If you and your partner are at an impasse, go dancing; try and make the week ahead, and the weekend,  light-and-fluffy in the relationship department and turf off any serious talks until after 1/29. This Venus/Mars square is exaggerated this time around due to interference by gas-lighting Neptune. Things aren’t quite what they seem, just like the movies. Give it a few days and you’ll see more clearly on 1/30 when Mars and Venus have moved away from Neptune and each other.

The Moon is New in Aquarius on Friday afternoon; and, it squares–forms a challenge–to Uranus in Taurus. Uranus has been in and out of Taurus since May of 2017–this is the first time it is contacting the Sun in Aquarius, and I’ll be curious to see what much needed shake-ups and disruptions we experience.  Most of the planets during this New Moon are in Zodiac signs that are concerned with the collective experiences (Aquarius) and social structures (Capricorn) of human condition–so much of what is playing out in our collective spheres–social media, politics–is related to what is playing out in our own private sphere. This New Moon, the Sun (free will) and the Moon (security) in rebellious Aquarius challenge individualistic Uranus in status-quo Taurus. Clashes between rebels and those wanting to preserve the system are very possible Thursday through the weekend. Expect some big surprise. I know, in astrology you are looking for something more specific–but Uranus and Aquarius are chaotic and unpredictable energies, and when repressed, they express their needs for freedom at any cost and in ways that are impossible to predict.  This New Moon is volatile–so I’m predicting surprising events, something very unanticipated in the impeachment trial and something shocking about the climate crisis. We have a few volcanoes in Alaska and the Philippines spewing steam and lava, maybe a volcano will blow.

What are good intentions for this New Moon? Intentions about setting goals and allowing yourself to have positive dreams for your future and the future of all humankind. Make intentions about friendship, being a good friend, finding new friends. Intentions about creativity, uniqueness–finding unique, creative solutions to entrenched problems. Being your own best friend! That is a challenge for most. Aquarius is the sign of the friend. We would all be better off with more friends and less screen time.  Look for ways to accept your own needs for self-expression and ways to express your unique nature; find ways to fight for social justice, if that is your thing, or volunteer for a political cause. Or join a non-partisan civic group. Or join a group–Aquarius rules groups. A knitting group? A book group? The New Moon in Aquarius is time for new beginnings in the human feeling–use these ideas for your own new start.
